In fact, it might have looked a little something like this excellent demake concept from Nintendo Wire, which channels The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past more than just a little.
The mockup is more than just a start screen and the text accompanying the beginning of the game in Breath of the Wild. It even introduces the Sheikah Slate and gives you a brief tease of a shrine, just enough to get you wondering. Watching Link puttering around the world in the familiar retro style is enough to get us salivating for more, especially the fantastic intro screen that recalls other hits in the past like Oracle of Ages.Â
The video is only two minutes, but it may be two of the best minutes you watch today, especially if you’re a retro gaming fan. This is some top-notch concept work, and if we still lived in a time where something like this could be released as a new title, looks like the folks at Nintendo Wire would have a new hit on their hands.Â
Though Breath of the Wild is a spectacle all on its own, one wonders what could have been if this was the manner in which we had to enjoy it, and back on the Game Boy Color at that. Oh, what could have been!
