According to documents found in a presentation by Windows Central, it looks like Microsoft is further pushing mods on Xbox Live, creating a platform that is apparently going to set a standard territory for all the titles willing to support them.
The platform is reportedly called Xbox Community Content and is said to be implemented as early as this Summer. It’s going to define whether these mods should be paid or not, what can be modded and how to use the mods.
Recently, a job listing made it clear Microsoft was seeking for engineers to “drive support for Xbox Live game mods,” so it is quite clear the Redmon platform owner is looking into the matter and seeing how it can unify the efforts done in the past by indie devs (Cities Skylines supports modding) and Bethesda.
IGN.com has contacted the American platform holder and received a no comment in return. “We are always exploring new ways to improve the Xbox experience,” a spokesperson said, “but have nothing further to share at this time.”
It’s clear that Microsoft is doing something in this segment and doing so would bring more PC-like experiences to the Xbox platform. We don’t know whether this could be really done in time for this gen, but evidently, there’s not a thought about generations when talking about Xbox Live.
