A reveal that surprised literally almost no one, Johnny Cage has been unveiled to be in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 game.

Cage’s reveal was expected to happen in KombatKast live stream this afternoon, but was instead revealed in a trailer release midnight of last night on IGN.

Johnny Cage was one of the original seven playable characters in the original Mortal Kombat game. He has been a staple in the franchise since then, having appeared in almost every sequel. He marries, and subsequently divorces, fellow Kombatant Sonya Blade and had a daughter with her. Cassie Cage first appeared in Mortal Kombat X, and there are already some cutscenes showing her in Mortal Kombat 11, despite her not officially being announced. With Johnny’s announcement, the whole Cage family is expected to reunite in MK 11.

Johnny Cage’s gameplay in Mortal Kombat 11 appears to be similar to his past play styles. He has a green aura that surrounds his body as he does his special moves. He shoots green energy balls, and still has his shadow kick.

What’s new is that he can throw his sunglasses at his opponents. He can also somehow summon a clone of himself to grab opponents from behind. His Fatal Blow move involves stabbing his opponent with his acting trophy.

Cage’s Fatality may be the most Meta in the series to date. After knocking the jaws off of his enemy, a film crew suddenly shows up and has him redo the fatality. He hits the opponent a few more times, until his hand gets stuck in his opponent’s neck. He then throws the disembowel head at the camera.

Mortal Kombat 11 is expected to be release in April 23rd of this year.
