Hollywood Reporter reveals who is going to play Sonya Blade and Kano in the Mortal Kombat reboot movie.
The upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot film has cast its Sonya Blade and Kano.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Jessica McNamee and Josh Lawson are in negotiations to join the Mortal Kombat film. McNamee is reported to be in final talks to join as Sonya Blade, while Lawson has already signed a deal to play Kano.
Jessica McNamee is an Australian actress, who has played several roles on TV and movies, with a notable recent role in the film Meg. Her character in the Mortal Kombat movie, Sonya Blade, was the sole female character in the original Mortal Kombat game. She is a member of the Special Forces and has an intense rivalry with the criminal Kano.
Josh Lawson is another Australian actor, and he is set to play Kano. Kano is a ruthless criminal and is a leader of the underground criminal organization known as the Black Dragon. He is Sonya Blade’s arch-nemesis and is well known for his cybernetic eye.
McNamee and Lawson join Joe Taslim, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tadanobu Asano and Sisi Stringer in the cast of the Mortal Kombat reboot.
Joe Taslim, known for his role in the Indonesian film The Raid, will be playing Sub-Zero, the ninja with the power of controlling and summoning ice. Ludi Lin, who played one of the Power Rangers in the 2017 theatrical film, is set to play Liu Kang, the Mortal Kombat Champion and de facto protagonist of the games.
Mehcad Brooks, who plays James Olsen in the Supergirl TV show, will be playing Jax Briggs, a member of the Special Forces and is remembered by fans for his robotic arms. Tadanobu Asano, a Japanese actor, known for his roles in movies like Marvel’s Thor, will be playing Raiden, the God of thunder. Sisi Stringer, who is a newcomer, is going to play Mileena, the evil clone of Kitana and has deadly sharp teeth.
Hollywood Reporter also shares that Lewis Tan has been cast in the reboot. Tan is an actor who is known for his roles in Deadpool 2 and the Iron Fist TV show. His role in the film has yet to be disclosed.
The Mortal Kombat reboot is currently slated for a March 5, 2021 release date.
