The Mortal Kombat reboot film has now cast its Scorpion and Shang Tsung.

Variety reports that Hiroyuki Sanada and Chin Han are being contacted to play Scorpion and Shang Tsung in the reboot.

Hiroyuki Sanada is a Japanese actor, who is known in the West for his roles in The Last Samurai, The Wolverine, and Avengers: Endgame. Sanada is reportedly being tapped to play Scorpion. Scorpion serves as Mortal Kombat’s mascot, having been featured heavily on the box art and promotional materials for most of the games. He is an undead revenant, who desires revenge against Sub-Zero’s clan.

Chin Han is a Singaporean actor, who is known for his roles in The Dark Knight and Skyscraper. Han is in talks to play Shang Tsung. Tsung served as the main antagonist in the first Mortal Kombat game. He is an immortal magician, who drains the souls of his opponents to become more powerful. He hosts the Mortal Kombat tournament in the very first game.

Sanada and Han join Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Joe Taslim, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tadanobu Asano and Sisi Stringer in the cast of the Mortal Kombat reboot.

Jessica McNamee will be playing Sonya Blade, the first playable female character in the franchise and one of the main protagonists in the games. Josh Lawson is in talks to play Kano, a ruthless criminal with a cybernetic eye and is Sonya Blade’s arch-rival.

Joe Taslim, known for his role in the Indonesian film The Raid, will be playing Sub-Zero, the ninja with the power of controlling and summoning ice. Ludi Lin, who played one of the Power Rangers in the 2017 theatrical film, is set to play Liu Kang, the Mortal Kombat Champion and de facto protagonist of the games.

Mehcad Brooks, who plays James Olsen in the Supergirl TV show, will be playing Jax Briggs, a member of the Special Forces who has robotic arms. Tadanobu Asano, a Japanese actor, known for his roles in movies like Marvel’s Thor, will be playing Raiden, the God of thunder and protector of Earth. Newcomer Sisi Stringer is going to play Mileena, the evil clone of Kitana who has deadly sharp teeth.

Lewis Tan has also been cast in the reboot; Tan is an actor who is known for his roles in Deadpool 2 and the Iron Fist TV show. His role in the film has yet to be disclosed.

The Mortal Kombat reboot is currently slated for a March 5, 2021 release date.
