Be still my beating heart, Nintendo have just announced the game I never knew I wanted. Dark Crystal Tactics will be a tie in game to the Netflix produced Dark Crystal show. The Jim Henson company originally made dark Crystal in 1982 and terrified most of my generation when we were kids. Now you can help the Gelflings in their battle against the Skeksis in the upcoming Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics game from Nintendo.

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics was revealed during E3 2019 during the Nintendo Direct. You will control your units, drawn from the show, on a grid-based battlefield as you engage with your enemies. It is a fully 3D title and will go beyond the scope of the lore in the Netflix show. This means we can effectively expect to see all kinds of new characters, creatures, and lore points from the world’s history that is not covered in either the movie or the show.

It will be a turned based tactical strategy game, although it remains to be seen how it will tie into the Netflix show. The game will be coming later this year and is developed by BonusXP and En Masse Entertainment. As for the Netflix show, that will release on August 30, later this year. We can also assume that they will try and have the release date of the game occur around the same time, to take advantage of hype levels.

I will be keeping a very close eye on this one, as it is not often I get to dive back into one of my favourite childhoods movies in two new mediums at the same time.
