According to a rumor, Nintendo is planning to turn The Legend of Zelda in an annual franchise, with a new release per year.
Breath of the Wild’s been released in 2016 for Wii U and Nintendo Switch, and Hyrule Warriors has come earlier this year to the hybrid system.
This is apparently a clue that more games could be dropping in 2019, 2020, and so on, as part of a specific strategy of Nintendo.
“Nintendo is keen to have a Zelda game launch on Switch every year,” says Eurogamer, which looks rather convinced of a new title coming next year.
Interestingly, there’s been a rumor around that Skyward Sword could be coming to Switch in 2019, although it’s already been debunked.
On top of that, there’s still a good amount of classics which could be re-released to fill the gap between major series launches, as well as cooperations with other publishers and devs.
So, is this the way that leads to the future of the franchise? It’s still a bit early to say, but everything seems to point at that at this stage.
