My Nintendo Gold Points Soon Redeemable For Switch Games

Nintendo Switch users will soon be able to purchase Nintendo Switch games on the Nintendo eShop with their My Nintendo Gold Points.

God news for My Nintendo users eager to spend their Gold Points on Nintendo Switch titles. Starting in early March, Nintendo is letting Switch players exchange Gold Points for “eligible digital games and content” on the Switch’s eShop, according to Nintendo’s My Nintendo U.S. and U.K. websites.

My Nintendo users acquire Gold Points by registering specific digital games for Nintendo Switch, Wii U, or Nintendo 3DS with the service, as well as physical Switch games. From there, 5 percent of the total amount used to purchase the game is turned into Gold Points, which the player can use on new games.

Once the new Gold Points update rolls around, players can then use their collected Gold Points on an “eligible digital purchase” for the Switch, which includes “games and DLC” from the Nintendo eShop, Nintendo’s U.S. page reports. That means players can use Gold Points from digital Wii U purchases for new Nintendo Switch games.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo U.K. website states that Nintendo Switch users can use Gold Points to partially pay for digital games, too, and use their current eShop balance to cover the rest. That suggests Switch game purchases will be much more affordable for customers with a huge Gold Points stockpile.

2018 plans to be a major year for the Nintendo Switch as well. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is headed to the Switch later this year, and industry insider Marcus Sellars previously alleged that a new Call of Duty game is planned for the console. At the very least, Switch fans will have plenty of games to redeem later this year.
