No matter what platform it’s on, NieR: Automata is a big hit. The game was on PlayStation 4 and PC for a while and sold millions of copies; and it came out on Xbox One shortly after that, getting good attention on that system, too. So that leaves some people wondering – could the Nintendo Switch be next? Well, that depends on said people wanting the game bad enough.

While speaking with Bunnygaming, the game’s director, Yoko Taro, had a direct response when it came to a potential Switch port of Automata.

“You already know the answer,” he said with a laugh. “It’s – ‘Please ask Square Enix!’”

The company hasn’t expressed interest in a Switch port of the action game. However, its support for the system as of late is unprecedented, between classic Final Fantasy games coming out, and Dragon Quest XI getting a definitive edition later this month, with help from Nintendo. (Let’s not forget the classic Dragon Quest games coming to the system on the same date.)

Takihisa Taura, the lead designer for the game, provided a little more detail about the possibility of a port during a previous livestream for Automata. However, the answer was roughly the same.

“From our perspective in Platinum Games, if Square Enix pays us to do it, we’ll make you a version for the Switch, we’ll make you a version for the Super Nintendo if you want – anything you ask for.”

Super Nintendo, eh? Now there’s a challenge.

So there it is fans. If NieR: Automata is a game that’s desired for the platform, ask for it!

In the meantime, NieR: Automata is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
