During an interesting interview with Eurogamer, Brian Fargo has commented Microsoft Studios’ acquisition of inXile Entertainment, which was announced at X018.
Fargo has shared a long story together with Feargus Urquhart when the pair founded Interplay, the original developer and publisher of the Fallout series among the others.
So, to many, it felt like a natural consequence that inXile and Obsidian could merge after both got acquired by Microsoft.
Anyway, it doesn’t look like this is the plan at Microsoft, since the developers are going to work independently one from the other, similarly to what happens today.
“There’s absolutely no plans to lump us together or have us work in the same office or anything of that nature,” Fargo told Eurogamer.
“What could come out of it, of course, is we’re going to have a tighter relationship. We’re going to be less competitive and more like brothers, and as we compare notes I’m hoping there could be some synergies so we can help each other across town.
Any number of things could happen, but that will be for me and Feargus [Urquhart] to talk about, for something we think is good for both of us. But ultimately, no, we’re not being merged out.”
So, we’re all curious to see what they can come up with once the dust has settled upon the acquisition for Xbox One (and Scarlett) and Windows 10.
It’ll take a few years, though, so don’t hold your breath for more news about Obsidian and inXile’s projects.
