The Pokémon Sword and Shield Double Pack is getting exclusive downloadable content

This isn’t a good sign for the future of the series.

The Pokémon Company just dropped a brand new trailer for Pokémon Sword and Shield that reveals a host of further information about the game, including new Pokémon, characters, and much more.

To top it all off, Nintendo also revealed new information about the Double-Pack for the game, which comes with both versions of Sword and Shield, as well as a slick Golden Hardcover Box to store all your games into if you want.

As a special bonus for purchasing the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Double Pack, Trainers will receive two codes (one per game) that rewards them with special items known as Dynamax Crystals.

By using the Dynamax Crystals in the Wild Area, Trainers can face Dynamax Larvitar and Dynamax Jangmo-o in special Max Raid Battles. These Pokémon usually are encountered later in the game.

Larvitar won’t appear in Pokémon Sword, and Jangmo-o won’t appear in Pokémon Shield during normal gameplay. But players will be able to catch them in either version by using these Dynamax Crystals.

The codes act as early Pokemon encounters for anyone who wants them but also signals a potential inclusion of future Pokémon DLC in the game. This could, hopefully, #BringBacktheNationalDex.
