LawBreakers developer Boss Key Productions launched its 80s battle royale game Radical Heights yesterday, and the game just couldn’t reach 10,000 players.

Across Radical Heights’ launch day, Steam Database reports the game peaked at 8,718 players within its first 24 hours. Playtime lasted an average of 29 minutes with a median of 22, which implies most users played through Radical Heights for a round or two and then subsequently quit.

Peaking at over 8,700 players may sound impressive for Radical Heights’ first day on Steam, but those stats are sorely lacking compared to the game’s rivals. When PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds first launched on Steam in March 2017, for instance, the game peaked at 66,679 players during its first two weeks, according to GitHyp. Fortnite: Battle Royale, meanwhile, gained over one million players when it released on Sept. 26, 2017.

Radical Heights is clearly trying to cash in on the battle royale craze with its own spin on the genre, and that’s promising. But if Boss Key Productions wants to compete, then Radical Heights will have to score a lot more players than a couple thousand. In the meantime, the game is entirely free on Steam, which should help the developers gauge interest from players who prefer something a bit cheaper than PUBG.

On the other hand, Boss Keys’ first game LawBreakers has struggled to stay in the double-digits, with the game’s playercount going as low as zero in the past week, according to Steam Database.

Update May 10 3pm CT: Original article reported that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds opened with 39,000 players during its first 24 hours. That figure has since been updated with a more precise number for the game’s launch month.
