Anyway, while several independent titles like Fortnite and Rocket League have joined the party, triple-A publishers are still looking into the matter.
One of the games coming from those publishers which is “thinking” about this opportunity is Rainbow Six Siege.
As shared by Executive Producer Xavier Marquis, Ubisoft is indeed considering the chance of building a cross-play support for the game on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
“I’m thinking about it. I’m really happy because I’m now seeing signs from consoles makers to accept it, and for it to be okay to do cross-play,” Marquis said.
Anyway, don’t hold your breath for the feature to come shortly, as “today we are not really working on it. We are thinking about it, but nothing is planned.”
Cross-play has led to some unexpected partnerships, like the one between Microsoft and Nintendo which was born on Minecraft and now even possibly driving to something bigger.
Perhaps, when bigger publishers are ready to implement the features (think about EA on Apex Legends, too), there will be a true change in the industry for what matters multiplayer.
