Scribblenauts returns with the party-centric Scribblenauts Showdown

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

It’s been four years since we’ve seen or heard from the adorable Scribblenauts franchise, which lets you “scribble” the name of nearly any item into the game to help you solve puzzles. Now, the series is welcoming a new title to its ranks in the form of Scribblenauts Showdown, which is launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in March.

Rather than releasing another puzzle-based affair, this Scribblenauts entry will focus on multiplayer-centric mini games with support for up to four players. Series hero Maxwell will return as well as several new characters, as the game’s development changes hands from 5th Cell to Shiver Entertainment.

There will be a collection of over 25 mini games to play with friends in Showdown mode, which features different groups of games to play, organized by type. For instance, you could choose sets of “Speedy” games that have you working to complete objectives quickly, or “Wordy” games, which are based on the original and vanilla Scribblenauts titles.

But if you’re not into that kind of gameplay, you can opt to play around in Sandbox mode, which allows you to use the same kind of cunning and love of exploration that motivated players in previous games to solve puzzles. If you need to summon a zombie to push a duck into a pond, then that’s what you’ll have to do. Or you could use a car. It’s all up to you.

Scribblenauts Showdown releases on Mar. 6, so have your dictionaries ready.
