After a week of intense speedruns and great highlights, the world’s best speedrunning marathon has come to an end.

This year, over 100 games were played on a large selection of consoles—and SGDQ 2018 became the most successful summer event in the organization’s history. The speedrunning marathon raised $2.12 million, becoming the first SGDQ to acquire over $2 million at a single event. It’s also just shy of the GDQ record of $2.26 million, which was reached at AGDQ 2018.

SGDQ is one of two charity speedrunning events that’s hosted by GamesDoneQuick. The marathons occur twice a year, with a new show called GDQ Express (GDQx) set to take place at TwitchCon 2018 from Oct. 26 to 28 in San Jose, California. The events bring in thousands of viewers to watch their favorite speedrunners destroy some of their beloved games and, in turn, donate money to charity.

Final Fantasy VI, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were the last games played at this year’s event—and donations quickly flooded the stream within the final few hours. To start the last day, SGDQ 2018 sat just above $1 million in donations. But the event quickly made its second million in the final 24 hours.

AGDQ 2019 will be the next big event after GDQx, but the organization has yet to reveal its location. It’ll likely begin sometime next January, however, as it has done for the past few years.
