Ho-Oh is returning to Legendary Raids in Pokémon Go starting today. But Niantic also has another surprise in store for players who go out hunting for this legendary Pokémon.
Trainers who are lucky enough to find Ho-Oh in a nearby Legendary Raid might get the chance to catch a rare, shiny variant of this Pokemon for a limited-time only. This Ho-Oh can be distinguished by its gold body instead of its regular red look, as well as the shiny animation that appears after a player finds it.
Ho-Oh is the second Johto legendary Pokémon to return to Pokémon Go following Lugia, and this creature is now available alongside Latios and Latias, two Hoenn legendary Pokémon who will be leaving the game in the next few days.
This legendary bird is a Fire and Flying-type Pokémon, which means that it’s weak against Rock, Electric, and Water-type attacks. Some of the best Pokémon you can take into battle against Ho-Oh include Tyranitar, Golem, Zapdos, Raikou, Kyogre, and Gyarados. Be careful of Ho-Oh’s charged moves, though—Solar Beam and Fire Blast can definitely pack a mean punch.
You should try to be quick if you want to add Ho-Oh to your Pokédex, however. This legendary creature will only be around until June 7 and Niantic has given players no clear indication on when, or if, players will see this bird in Legendary Raids again in the future. This might also be your only chance to grab a shiny Ho-Oh, so you won’t want to miss out on that opportunity.
