Lab Zero Games, the developer behind Skullgirls and Indivisble, announced today at Anime Expo 2018 that Skullgirls 2nd Encore will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the future.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore is an enhanced version of the original Skullgirls Encore, which was originally released in 2015. The game features all the DLC from previous versions. The announcement marks the first time that Skullgirls has appeared on a Nintendo console in the series history.

The Skullgirls franchise has had a dramatic history since it was first released in 2012. Following allegations of fraud towards the games publisher, Autumn Games, financial support for Skullgirls was pulled from developer Reverge Labs. That core team would eventually form Lab Zero Games.

Autumn Games severed ties with Konami, who were distributing the game in 2013. Konami then requested to have the game removed from Xbox 360 and PS3’s online stores. The announced seemed to signal the end of the series, but this was a huge upset for fans. Despite publishing woes, Skullgirls had amassed a significant following, with charismatic animation and rich, combo-heavy combat. Lab Zero Games decided to re-release the game in 2014 for Xbox and PlayStation platforms as Skullgirls Encore with Marvelous as the new publisher.

Lab Zero Games have not announced when players can get their hands on the game on the Nintendo Switch.
