Skyrim VR Heads to HTC Vive and Oculus Rift Next Month

PC gamers will be able to experience Skyrim with their virtual reality headsets on April 3, less than a month away.

Skyrim fans eager for the game’s official VR experience on PC are in for a treat. Bethesda announced earlier this week that Skyrim VR is headed to PC via SteamVR on April 3.

Skyrim VR launches with the full core game recreated for VR headsets, letting players experience The Elder Scrolls V as if they’re really in the game. And unlike previous Bethesda VR releases, such as Fallout 4 VR and Doom VFR, the game even supports the Oculus Rift alongside the HTC Vive. That means users that own either set will be able to play the game, not just one or the other.

Unfortunately, don’t expect Skyrim VR to replicate the full PC Skyrim experience from day one. Ars Technica reports that the game’s VR rendition won’t receive mod support when it launches, meaning players won’t be able to use the game as their virtual reality modding playground right away.

But this doesn’t seem to be keeping fans back from buying the game. UploadVR reports Skyrim VR has skyrocketed up Steam’s Top Sellers chart, with the game resting as the seventh top seller across products on Steam as of March 15 at 4pm ET.

It’s unclear just how many units the game has sold via pre-orders so far, but at the very least, fans will know just how popular Skyrim VR is once it launches on PC April 3.
