Paramount’s upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie has an official release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will open in theaters on Nov. 15, 2019 and will be a mixture of live-action and CGI.
Next year could be a bumper year for video game movie properties. The Detective Pikachu movie will hit theaters on May 10 and the recently announced Mario 2D movie by Illumination Studios is rumored to be coming next year too.
Not much is known about the film at the moment with the plot, characters, and look still under wraps. Fans are eager to see whether the film will be based on the original Sonic the Hedgehog series for the classic Sega systems or if it will be based on the more recent Sonic Boom series.
This is Sonic’s big screen debut, but the blue hedgehog has been the subject of a number of television series over the past three decades.
We do know, however, that the movie will be directed by Jeff Fowler. Fowler has just one directorial credit to his name—a short film called Gopher Broke in 2004. His last credited work according to IMDB was animation research work on 2009’s Where the Wild Things Are. The Sonic movie will be his feature directorial debut.
Tim Miller, who directed the Deadpool movie, will serve as the executive producer.
