Sony has announced beta test sign-ups for its upcoming PlayStation 4 system software update 5.50. If you’re interested in trying things out before the rest of your friends get their hands on the update, then you can get involved beyond sitting around and waiting for the new update to drop.
The official PlayStation Blog announced the beta signups beginning today, where you can apply for the chance to become a beta tester ahead of the update’s launch and for additional updates gong forward. You can register any time between today and the beginning of February as long as you’re 18 or older and based in either the U.S. or Canada .
Previous beta testers who participated in the program got to check out features like improvements made to the messaging system, friends list, Family on PSN, and a few additional tweaks that came with version 5.00. It’ll be the same deal when update 5.50 is deployed.
If you sign up and happen to be chosen to become a beta tester, you’ll get an email with how you can go about downloading the new software, which you’ll of course need a PlayStation 4 and online connection for. If you download the new beta and aren’t digging it, you can always go back to the previous version as well. Once you’re in with this beta, you can choose to be added to future betas as well, so there’s no need to keep registering. If you opt in for additional betas, you’ll get a special avatar for your participation.
You can sign up for the beta test program here, so keep checking your email inbox for updates going forward if this is something you’re interested in.
