Amazon Canada has listed Splinter Cell 2018. Does this mean Ubisoft is going to reveal the next Splinter Cell game at E3 2018?
A new Splinter Cell game has apparently popped up in the Amazon Canada listings, hinting at a possible E3 2018 reveal after many years passed since the latest release in the beloved stealth franchise.
The game is being named “Splinter Cell 2018” on Amazon, which likely hints at the possibility that Ubisoft might be planning an announcement at the upcoming major video game event this June.
From what we know so far, Ubisoft has shifted its attention to persistent online experiences such as The Division (with a sequel just announced), Rainbow Six Siege, Ghost Recon Wildlands, For Honor, and the upcoming Skull & Bones and The Crew 2.
Based on the last statement from Ubisoft’s president Yves Guillemot, “all the Clancy games are coming along. We are not forgetting Splinter Cell.” The latest release in the series was 2013’s Blacklist.
“I can’t say much about that”, he told Geoff Keighley. For sure, all the Clancy games are taken care of. It’s just that we have a lot on our plate at the moment and The Division continues to be played and Rainbow Six too.”
So there’s a strong possibility that Splinter Cell might be back at E3, perhaps in a similar shape to Assassin’s Creed Origins. Of course, we’re not talking about an open world environment, but at least the persistent component, with lots of updates day after day, has proved successful.
