Pokémon Sword and Shield and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are having a crossover. Spirits based on Pokémon from Sword and Shield are coming to Smash Bros. Ultimate this Friday.

Pokémon and Super Smash Bros. are two of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. The most recent entries in the prestige franchises have sold very well. Smash Bros. Ultimate was recently declared the best-selling fighting game of all time, whereas Sword and Shield had one of the biggest UK launches in the franchise’s history.

Spirits in Smash Bros. Ultimate are a gameplay mechanic where players can equip the spirits of non-playable Nintendo characters to the playable roster. The spirits then imbue the playable fighters with special power-ups or stat bonuses.

This Friday, Smash Bros. Ultimate will release new spirits based on Pokémon Sword and Shield, which will serve as a celebration towards the games’ release.

The official Japanese Twitter account for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released images of the new spirits, and they are that of the starters, the two boxed Legendaries, Corviknight, and Morpeko.

The new spirits will release with a new limited time event, which will focus on players challenging NPC fighters that are customized with the new Pokémon spirits. Winning against these NPCs will earn players the new spirits.
