Texas family’s doorbell camera catches a man in a Joe Biden mask eating a banana at their door, and they call the encounter ‘scary’

A doorbell camera at a Texas home appears to have recorded a person in a Joe Biden mask eating a banana at the front door, and police reportedly believe no crime took place.

A doorbell camera at a Texas home recorded a person in a mask resembling former President Joe Biden eating a banana outside the front door on Sunday night. According to New York Post, the household’s Nest camera caught the visitor at about 8 p.m. in Watauga, a city in Tarrant County roughly 10 miles from Fort Worth. WFAA also reported the encounter.

The visitor wore a T-shirt that read “FREEDOM” and approached the door holding a banana. The outlet’s account adds that the person was barefoot, opened a jacket to show the shirt and leaned toward the lens before tapping it. The footage shows the person running their fingers over the camera twice, eating the banana through the mask and then walking away.

Fox News Digital reported that the shirt appeared similar to ones linked to Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA. Officers responded to a suspicious activity report and reviewed the homeowner’s video at the scene, the same report stated. They found no evidence of a crime, and a search of the surrounding streets did not turn up the visitor. No criminal charges have been filed in the case.

Police advise residents to report concerns

Watauga police stated that the visitor’s attire and snack “neither appears to have violated the law” and that “being bizarre is not, in itself, a criminal offense.” Police added that their assessment had not changed after they reviewed the available information.

The department also warned that behavior perceived as threatening can lead to dangerous confrontations and possible serious injury. Officers urged residents to call police about concerning behavior instead of confronting people themselves. They noted that behavior meant as a joke can cause unnecessary concern for others.

Police encouraged residents to keep reporting suspicious activity despite the unusual circumstances, which the department called “a little bananas,” Wide Open Country reported. The department added that it could not release any other video. The Texas State Law Library states that no current laws prohibit wearing masks in public.

The library traces an earlier state anti-mask law to 1925 and notes that a court ruled at least one part of it unconstitutional in 1929. The Daily Texan reported that the state repealed that law in 1974. A 2023 state law, codified in the Texas Health and Safety Code, bars government COVID-19 mask mandates, but the library notes it does not prohibit wearing masks outright. The library adds that it cannot say what the law means for any specific situation.

Police know of online posts in which other residents describe similar sightings, though no related reports have gone directly to officers, Fox News Digital reported. Strange Texas moments have reached social media before, as when a Texan reviewed a Velcro-sounding brisket.
