A movie about The Division got announced a while ago, and we even have Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain as the two protagonists. After a few months spent in the dark, Ubisoft shared details at E3 2019 that it is getting worked on at Netflix and the movie will broadcast on the popular streaming service.
Where are they in the filming process, though? Speaking about that with The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw‘s director David Leitch said that the script is currently getting written right now. He also noted that “the process is accelerating quickly.”
“I’m excited about the material, and it is potentially next for us,” Leitch said. He’s hinting at the possibility that this could be the next movie he’ll be directing now that he has shipped the just release the Fast & Furious spin-off.
“We are currently in the script phase,” Leitch said. “Then, it’s about getting everybody’s schedules to line up and making sure that we’re ready to go with a script we’re 100 percent behind. That process is accelerating quickly. I love that material, and I love the potential of working with those two incredible actors [Gyllenhaal and Chastain].”
It’s good to hear that the director has so much passion for The Division. We feel that in particular, the original game in the franchise (more than the sequel) has the potential to turn into a compelling movie experience. We’ll see how it holds up when the project releases for the masses to judge for themselves.
