Focus Home Interactive and Deck 13’s partnership brought us The Surge last year, a unique action RPG that featured an intriguing premise and interesting protagonist.

It debuted in May 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and while it made a brief blip on the radar, the community was largely quiet about it throughout the rest of the year. It was a quality game, so thankfully it’s getting the sequel it deserves.

The Surge 2 will make its debut in 2019, and from the sound of Focus Home Interactive’s announcement, it’ll keep much of what made it appealing to those who did enjoy the game.

It’ll include the same kind of character progression and limb-targeting system with multifaceted combat, with new ideas sprinkled in on top. It’ll also be set within a new environment even larger than the first game’s, with new weapons and abilities to use in tandem with implants and drones.

There isn’t a lot of information out there just yet about the upcoming sequel, but expect some to come out soon as the game will be discussed during Le What’s Next de Foxus, a French press event held by the publisher in Paris. It’s spanning Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, so we’ll likely see some tidbits trickling out soon. In the meantime, check out the original game for some examples of inventive storytelling.
