The Pokemon Direct took place early this morning, and during that 15-minute presentation, we were able to get a quick glimpse at how trainers are going to acquire their creatures. As it turns out, it’s going to work similarly to in Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee where trainers can see the creatures that are around them.

Unlike previous Pokemon entries where trainers randomly encountered Pokemon by wandering through high grass, the Pokemon in Pokemon Shield and Pokemon Sword are going to be roaming the wild. If trainers do not wish to encounter the creatures, they can bypass them rather than attempting to avoid the high grass in general.

We’re going to be learning more about how else trainers can capture and fight wild Pokemon, and this story is still developing. Stay tuned to learn more.
