World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth has entered beta testing phase

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Ready to get into World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth? There’s still a while left to go until it’s released to the public in its final form, but it’s left its alpha stage and has begun beta testing. That means, presumably, you could get your hands on it to take it for a spin, as Blizzard has been sending out the first wave of keys to players who opted in to beta testing.

There’s more on the way, so if you missed out on a key and feel some personal devastation as a result, cheer up. You may be lucky enough to nab a code to redeem during the next round.

There’s a lot to discover in the beta, such as the new level cap of 120, as well as several new playable races like the Horde’s Nightborne and Highmountain Tauren and the Void Elves and Lightforged Draenei for the Alliance. If you do get in and play through a good portion of the beta, you won’t have to worry about your characters being wiped at present, either. Blizzard has announced that no further character wipes are currently planned for this round of play.

If you missed out on both waves of beta invites and don’t want to be left out in the cold when the new keys arrive, make sure you opt in for future beta tests. You can do this by checking out your BattleNet account’s settings and select the “beta profile settings” option to click through a list of games you actually want to receive keys for. It’s a pretty simple process and you might find yourself on the receiving end of keys next time around for most of the games you’re interested in getting updates for.

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth is targeting an Aug. 14 release, so you’ll definitely want to try and get in while the beta is still going if you want super early access.
