In a series of tweets, NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella has shared interesting information about the Xbox One X sales this year.

In particular, he claims that the latest console from Microsoft “has been performing phenomenally” over the current year.

“Console warring on the internet is one of the dumber things people do, unfortunately,” he added, meaning that things are a bit different in reality from what they look on the Internet.

"Xbox One X Has Been Performing Phenomenally," Says NPD Group

“Xbox One sales show the highest growth of the three major hardware platforms in the U.S. this year, and the Xbox One X in particular has been performing phenomenally…”, Piscatella said about the sales.

“Year-over-year growth like this at this point in the cycle has never been seen before, driven by launch of the Xbox One X and new content delivery efforts.

It’s a mid-generation turnaround the market’s never seen before. This qualifies as phenomenal, even if not market leading.”

So, tl;dr, there’s an increase in terms of sales for Xbox One that’s never seen before at such point across a lifecycle of a console.

PS4 is still leading the market but that doesn’t mean Microsoft can’t be satisfied about the success of its platform, especially driven by the much more appealing Xbox One X.

Could this long tail of the generation, and Microsoft’s renewed efforts on the game development side of things, lead to a leading position with Xbox Scarlett?
