When The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was first revealed in 2014, Link’s appearance led many to speculate that the main character was actually female. That didn’t end up being true, of course. When The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was first revealed in 2014, Link’s appearance led many to speculate that the main character was actually female. That didn’t end up being true, of course. But now, four years later, you can finally play as a female Link thanks to a new mod for PC ports of the game.

The mod was made by “lynard killer,” and it changes Link’s voice and appearance to that of Linkle, a non-canonical character from Hyrule Warriors, the 2014 Wii-U Zelda spinoff. It also changes Link’s usual bow weapon into a crossbow, which Linkle’s weapon of choice in Hyrule Warriors.

This isn’t the first mod that has changed Link’s appearance into something dramatically different.

A few months ago, a mod released that changed Link’s model into Zelda, giving players the chance to play as the female Heroine for the first time on her quest to save Link from the clutches of Ganon.
