How to find and catch clone Charizard, Blastoise, and Venasaur in Pokémon Go

The clone Pokémon are a rare treat any trainer would want to add to their collection

There are a limited number of Pokémon available, but Pokémon Go has a found a way to give small twists to old classics, such as giving them special hats, outfits, or other unique features. Many of the uncommon components are only available for a limited time, so collectors in Pokémon Go need to act fast to capture these Pokémon. A new variant coming out are clone Pokémon based on Pokémon: The First Movie, where Mewtwo created clones of classic starter Pokémon’s final evolutions, and several others.

The clone Pokémon include Blastoise, Venasaur, Charizard, and Pikachu. These clone Pokémon are releasing in celebration of Mewtwo’s birthday, and are going to be available alongside the Armored Mewtwo event. The event runs from Feb. 25 at 4pm EST to March 2 at 4pm EST.

For those looking to capture a clone version of Blastoise, Venasaur, or Charizard, you will need to defeat them in four-star raids during the Mewtwo event. Because they are four-star, you may need another trainer to assist you in taking them down, and you need to explore the gyms of your local area to see if any spawn at any available raid location. The clone Pikachu works a little differently. You need to take a picture inside the Pokémon Go application and hope the clone jumps into the photo. If it does, a clone Pikachu should spawn nearby your location after you return to the overworld.

The clone Pokémon should have all the same weaknesses as their traditional counterparts. To take down Blastoise, you want to use Grass or Electric-types. For Venasaur, you want to use Fire, Flying, Ice, or Psychic-types. For Charizard, you want to use Electric, Rock, and Water-type moves. When you see one of these spawn in the available four-star raids, make sure to create a team ideal to taking them down.
