Steam’s sales are the highlight of the season for many discount-hungry gamers. Prices drop on on top titles across the board, from big developers to hit indie games.

The Winter Steam Sale runs right through the holidays, from Dec. 19 to Jan. 2, and it’s perfect for spending that shiny new gift card, grabbing an affordable gift for a friend off their wish list, or further bolstering your own backlog.

We’ve soured this season’s offering and selected some of the best of the best from this year’s Winter Sale.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – $38.99 (35% off)

Another stunning production by From Software, Sekiro rightfully earned the title of Game of the Year at this year’s Game Awards. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creative mind behind the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne, hit it out of the park with this one. The game is beautiful, for one, and, unlike previous series by From Software, the story is actually coherent. That’s not a requirement for a good game—look at the popularity of Kingdom Hearts, after all (yeah, we said it)—but it does add an extra layer of enjoyment. The game is similar to Dark Souls in gameplay, but with its own unique features.

Disco Elysium/image via Steam

Disco Elysium – $31.99 (20% off)

Disco Elysium is an open world role-playing game with a “unique skill system.” Players will take the role of a detective, solve crimes or take bribes, and “become a hero or a disaster of a human being,” as the Steam page puts it. Disco Elysium shines in the amount of options and choices available. It recently took several trophies at The Game Awards, including Best Role Playing Game, Best Narrative, and Best Indie Game.

Subnatica Header/image via steam

Subnautica – $16.24 (35% off)

Subnautica is a survival game set on an alien planet. The player is the sole survivor of a crash landing and must solve the mystery of the planet and the crash. Slowly the world and the narrative shape around the player as they start in the safe shallow waters and venture deeper. Subnautica shines in sound design. The atmosphere is complete thanks to the echoing song of underwater life and music. A second game, Subnautica: Below Zero, is currently in Early Access, but it’s not on sale this season.

Destiny 2 Header/ Steam

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – $20.99 (40% off)

Destiny 2 recently came to Steam, and while the base game is free to play, the DLCs are not. Shadowkeep is Destiny 2’s latest DLC. It adds new destinations, gear, missions, story, and raids. Since the base game is free, it’s easy to pick that up as well as the newest DLC. Shadowkeep also has a bundled option with other DLCs for $33.49 (33% off).

Planet Zoo Header/ Steam

Planet Zoo – $40.49 (10% off)

Planet Zoo is the successor to the old Zoo Tycoon game from the early generation of gaming. You can’t throw zoo keepers to angry tigers in this one, but this simulation game is incredibly detailed. Players will build their own zoo from scratch and go on research missions to unlock new features. Animals are detailed without being too realistic for the world. The game features a plethora of animals that all come with their own animations, and new content is frequently being added to this park sim.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey header/ Steam

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey – $23.99 (60% off)

One of the best Assassin’s Creed games to come out of the franchise is Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. The Steam page boasts that this is the best game of the series, and rightfully so. It’s a beautiful and authentic recreation of the Greek landscape filled with family drama. This iteration allows players more choices and opportunities in the faithfully reconstructed world of Ancient Greece. From choosing to play as either Kassandra or Alexios, to character skills, and even romance options, the game has thousands of ways to play and enjoy it.

Monster Hunter World header/Steam

Monster Hunter: World – $23.99 (60% off)

Monster Hunter: World is a newbie-friendly entry in the long-running, popular franchise. Players who aren’t fond of grinding in games will not enjoy the repetitive fighting for materials, but with a detailed world and some wicked cool monsters to fight, it’s easy to forget the grind. A new DLC will come to PC on Steam in January. If you’re looking forward to fighting dragons and beasts in the snow, pick up the base game while it’s on sale.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice/Steam

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – $9.99 (67% off)

An emotional and dramatic tale that follows Senua, a Celtic warrior in the Viking age, as she fights to save her dead lover from the afterlife. The story is dark, twisting, and beautiful as it explores loss and grief. It’s an older game from 2017, but a sequel was announced at the Game Awards earlier this month, so there’s no better time than now to catch up on all things Senua.

Red Dead Redemption 2 header/Steam

Red Dead Redemption 2 – $47.99 (20% off)

A fresh on Steam addition, Red Dead Redemption 2 follows Arthur Morgan and his band of outlaws in the Wild West. Tame horses, shoot unsuspecting citizens, hunt legendary game, and overcome the odds in a world set against you. One of the best open world games ever made, it offers endless opportunities and hours of enjoyable gameplay. It also features an online mode where you create your own character and explore the world with other players.

Star Wars header with characters/ Steam

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – $49.79 (17% off)

An action adventure game from Respawn Entertainment and EA Games, the game follows a young Padawan as he completes his training and fights the oppressive Empire. It’s another single-player-only game in the list, but it will enthrall fans of the Star Wars franchise. With beautiful graphics, creative world and creature design, and a powerful narrative, the game is an enjoyable ride from the start.
