Level 40 is no longer the cap in Pokémon Go, and trainers can reach level 50. With a new level cap, not only will trainers become stronger, but so will your Pokémon. The Pokémon in the game can level up even more, but it requires XL candy, a new resource you'll be hunting to grab. It's a fairly difficult, time-consuming resource, and acquiring it for all of your Pokémon is exceptionally tough. You can get them from transferring 100 candies of a Pokémon for one, walking them, or completing specific field research tasks. We've narrowed down the best Pokémon to give XL candy, so you can get the most benefit out of them. Swampert Swampert is a Water and Ground-type Pokémon. It's only weakness is Grass-type Pokémon, and it's a superb choice for the Master League. If you can earn XL candy for it, level this Pokémon up as quickly as possible. It's capable of reaching a maximum CP of 3,362, an attack of 187, a defense of 159, and stamina of 201. A shadow version of Swampert with XL candy is also a great choice. Galarian Stunfisk Galarian Stunfisk is a Ground and Steel-type Pokémon. It won't reach the same levels as an XL Swampert to make it into the Master League. Still, you should optimize it for the Ultra League, especially if you can build it alongside a Sirfetch'd and Giratina (Origin) team. Galarian Stunfisk can reach a maximum CP of 2,445, an attack of 133, a defense of 156, and stamina of 214. Abomasnow With the addition of Abomasnow's Mega Evolution, there are even more resources to give it XL candy. It's a Grass and Ice-type Pokémon, and both its regular and shadow version are XL candy candidates. It can reach a maximum CP level of 2,670, but you want to stop it roughly around 2,470 to 2,495, so you can use it in the Ultra League, where it can truly shine. You can use it in the Master League, but it won't be as potent. You can match it up with Ho-Oh, Alakazam, or Swampert. Umbreon For Eevee fans, it's time to bring out your favorite Dark-type evolution and grind out candies for Umbreon. It's a great candidate to use in the Ultra League to win against key matchups, such as Mewtwo, Gengar, Banette, Swampert, and even Giratina (Altered). It can reach a maximum of 2,416 and has an attack of 118, a defense of 214, and a stamina of 194. Steelix Much like Umbreon, Steelix has several key victories against powerful Ultra League Pokémon that make it a great choice. You want to place it right at the front of your formation or use it as the final choice. It has a maximum CP of 2,729, but you want to stop it closer to 2,470 to 2,495. It does lose against several notable Pokémon, such as Swampert, Registeel, and Lapras, but if you can create a team to protect it, you should be fine. Azumarill Azumarill continues to dominate the Great League, even with the introduction of XL candy. If anything, the Pokémon does, even more, to become a terror with additional upgrades. The only way to take it down is to use a Grass-type Pokémon, and those are few and far between in the Great League, so you have little to worry about and can easily counter it with a Fire, Flying, Ice, or a Psychic-type. Medicham A Fighting-type classic, Medicham was always a decent choice to use in the Great League, but it exceeds expectations with XL candy. It'll be able to fight against key choices, like Galarian Stunfisk. You'll need to protect it against key opponents like Azumarill, Alolan Marowak, Gardevoiur, and Togekiss, though. Lickitung XL candy gives plenty of Pokémon even more chances to shine, and several of those that didn't make it before. Lickitung is one of those Pokémon capable of breaking its traditional mold, and you can use it in the Great League. You need to be careful of encountering other Fighting or equally powerful Normal-type Pokémon, but a Lickitung with XL candy could be a great choice to round out your Great League team. All Legendary and Mythic Pokémon The legendary and mythical Pokémon you capture in Pokémon Go typically come from five-star raids, limited-time research tasks, or Battle League rewards. These Pokémon are legendary and mythical for a reason, and because of how challenging it can obtain them, making them more powerful is always welcome. Due to how difficult it is, you likely don't want to spend too much time worrying about them.
