Origins Of All Playable Characters In Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will be arriving on consoles very soon, and we believe now is the best time to share some comic book history. While Marvel superheroes have existed for decades and decades, it is thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that more people all over the globe know so many Marvel characters. Even though characters like Spider-Man and Captain America have always been well-known, thanks to the MCU, even the most inexperienced Marvel fans now know who the Guardians of the Galaxy are.

However, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 doesn’t just focus on the characters from the MCU. Seemingly learning from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s mistake, Wolverine and X-Men have been heavily promoted in the advertisement; Wolverine is even front and center on the box art. Spider-Verse characters are also part of the main roster, which includes Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey.

MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order – X-Men Trailer – Nintendo Switch

Assemble your ultimate team of Marvel Super Heroes from a huge cast including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men, and more! Team up with friends to prevent galactic devastation at the hands of the mad cosmic tyrant Thanos and his ruthless warmasters, The Black Order when the MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order game releases July 19, 2019!

With over 30 playable characters, it is hard to keep track of all of them. It’s even more difficult to recognize some of the more obscure characters in the game’s roster, like Elsa Bloodstone. That is why I’m here. As an avid reader of comics, and a big superhero fan, I’m here to give a brief synopsis of all the playable characters in Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Origins Of All Playable Characters In Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

Since there are so many characters, don’t expect me to go to every character in great detail. Each character will only get a brief description. Now let’s get started without further ado.

Black Panther

This video is unavailable.

No Description

T’Challa is the king of the fictional African country of Wakanda, and he has the powers of the Black Panther. Despite being featured heavily as his own hero, Black Panther began as a supporting character to the Fantastic Four – he first appeared in Fantastic Four #52.

Black Widow

Black Widow, who was portrayed as one of the founding members of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, actually began her comic career as a villain. First appearing as an Iron Man villain, Natalia Romanova was a Russian spy who would later switch sides and become an Avenger.

Captain America

One of Marvel’s oldest heroes, Captain America was a super soldier that fought against the Nazis in World War I. After the war, he was frozen solid and thawed out in modern times.

Captain Marvel

Air Force pilot Carol Danvers began her career as Ms. Marvel; a superhero alien was using the Captain Marvel codename at the time. Danvers remained as Ms. Marvel for decades, even after the original Captain Marvel passed away, until in 2011 when she finally adopted the Captain Marvel name.

MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3 – Crystal Gameplay! – Nintendo Switch

In this MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order News Update, I showcase, and talk about our very first look at Gameplay of Inhumans’ Crystal from the Inhuman Royal Family, with Captain Marvel, Captain America, and Drax the Destroyer in The Raft Venom and Electro Boss Battle, which features in Chapter 2 of the Game’s Main Story.

Crystal is part of a sub-species of enhanced humans that were experimented on by aliens called the Inhumans. She is part of a royal family that rules the Inhumans in a kingdom on the Moon. Her power is that she can control the four elements – air, earth, fire, and water. She also has a giant dog named Lockjaw, who can teleport people.

A blind lawyer by day, superhero by night; Daredevil lost his sight as a kid because of chemicals hitting his eyes. However, the substances also enhanced his other senses to superhuman levels. Dressing as a devil, which is ironic given his Catholic upbringing, he fights against the criminals in Hell Kitchen.

Deadpool is a fictional character who is entirely aware that he’s a fictional character! Initially starting his career as a supervillain for the X-Men, Deadpool would later evolve into an anti-hero. A mercenary with super healing abilities, Deadpool has developed a considerable fan base because of his constant fourth-wall-breaking.

Doctor Strange

Stephen Strange was a gifted surgeon until a car accident permanently damaged his hands. Desperate to fix them, he eventually learned the mystic arts and became the Sorcerer Supreme. He now uses magic to protect the realms from those who seek to harm it.

Drax the Destroyer

Drax is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and his origins are different between the comics and film. Drax in the movie is simply an alien, who wishes to get revenge on Ronan for murdering his family. In the comics, Drax was a human whose body was destroyed by Thanos and had his conscience placed in a body strong enough to kill Thanos.

Elektra is an assassin and longtime love interest of Daredevil. She is known for the red outfit and her signature pair of Sais. She occasionally acts as an antagonist, as she often comes into conflict with other heroes. However, in more recent times, she acts more like an anti-hero.

Elsa Bloodstone

Probably the most obscure character in the roster, Elsa Bloodstone is the daughter of an immortal monster-hunter. She is also a monster-hunter, having worked with the Avengers in the comics. She uses a variety of weapons and mysticism to help hunt down evil creatures.

After Captain America woke up in the present, he quickly bonded with a man named Sam Wilson. Sam has wing harnesses that he uses to fly and also has a pet bird called Redwing. Taking up the codename Falcon, Sam will become Captain America’s partner in stopping bad guys.

Gamora is an alien, and the adopted daughter of Thanos, the mad titan. She is the last of her kind in the comic books. Labeled as “The Most Dangerous Woman in the Universe,” Gamora’s skills are feared throughout the galaxy.

Ghost Rider

Multiple people have taken the Ghost Rider identity, yet none more famous than Johnny Blaze. Blaze was a daredevil stunt cyclist, until he sold his soul to a demon, and became bonded with the Spirit of Vengeance. His entire head ignites, and he becomes nothing more than a flaming skull.

Groot and Rocket Raccoon

Groot and Rocket Raccoon are both members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Groot is a species of aliens that are made up of wood and plant-like material, and he can only say, “I am Groot.” Rocket is a walking and talking Raccoon, and he loves guns.

Exclusive Hawkeye Gameplay – Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

Game Informer’s Ben Hanson and Ben Reeves show off new gameplay revealing Hawkeye in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order on the Nintendo Switch. Learn more details about his moves and our hands-on impressions at

Hawkeye has a similar origin to Black Widow. While he is shown as a founding member of the Avengers in the movies, he started as a villain. He quickly redeems himself and becomes a long-serving member of the Avengers. He is a hero that specializes with bow and arrows.

When a Gamma Bomb hits timid and scrawny Bruce Banner, he turns into the angry and muscular Hulk. Hulk is well-known for being green, and for being the strongest one, there is. The angrier he gets, the more powerful he becomes.

Iron Fist

Danny Rand is gifted with the powers of the iron fist after defeating an ancient mythical dragon. With the iron fist, he can concentrate his entire chi into his fists. He can then use that concentrated chi to punch things with tremendous force. Rand is also a master of the martial arts.

Iron Man

When genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist Tony Stark gets captured by enemy soldiers, he is forced to make himself a high tech suit of armor to escape. He then becomes Iron Man, using his limitless fortunes to continue creating more advance technology and aid the Avengers.

Luke Cage

Carl Lucas is framed with drug possession and sentenced to prison. While in prison, he undergoes a voluntary science experiment. The experiment gave him impenetrable skin and super strength. He escapes from prison and changes his name to Luke Cage.

A Holocaust survivor, Magneto is a mutant who wants to secure the survival of his species, no matter what the cost. The X-Men’s arch-nemesis, Magneto has the powers of Magnetism manipulation; he can control metals and create shields for himself. Even though he is mostly a villain, he often fights on the side of heroes when it suits him.

Ms. Marvel

Exclusive Ms. Marvel Gameplay – Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

Game Informer’s Ben Hanson and Ben Reeves show all the gameplay footage they have for Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order on the Nintendo Switch. Learn more details about her moves and our hands-on impressions at

Marvel’s first Muslim hero, Kamala Khan was a normal teenage girl who loved superheroes, especially Carol Danvers as Ms. Marvel. After Danvers became Captain Marvel, Kamala took the Ms. Marvel codename. Kamala is an Inhuman with shapeshifting powers.

A mutant with the appearance of a blue demon, Kurt Wagner grew up in a circus. The X-Men would later recruit him. Kurt is known for his likable personality and his religious background. His powers include teleportation and enhanced agility.

Psylocke has one of the weirdest and, in my opinion, the most awkward superhero origins ever. There isn’t enough space to adequately explain her. Just know that she’s part of the X-Men, she has the appearance of an Asian woman, has a British accent, and uses her psychic powers to create energy blades.

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch also has a weird backstory that is constantly being retcon. To boil it down, she is an enhanced person with the ability to warp reality. She used to be a mutant and daughter of Magneto until Marvel comics changed that. She is still classified as an X-Man in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

Exclusive Spider-Gwen Gameplay – Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

In this exclusive Game Informer video, Ben Hanson and Ben Reeves show off new gameplay of Spider-Gwen’s moves in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order on the Nintendo Switch. Learn more details about her moves and our hands-on impressions at

Gwen Stacey in the central Marvel universe was Peter Parker’s girlfriend, who tragically lost her life to the Green Goblin. In another universe, Gwen was bitten by a radioactive spider and became Spider-Woman (or Spider-Gwen). She has the same powers as Spider-Man, plus she knows how to play the drums.

Spider-Man (Peter Parker)

Nerdy Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider while in high school. The bite imbued him with the proportionate strength and agility of a spider. After losing his Uncle Ben to a robber he could’ve stopped, he learned that with great power comes great responsibility.

Spider-Man (Mile Morales)

In an alternate Universe, Peter Parker as Spider-Man perishes in the line of duty. Miles Morales, who was also bitten by a radioactive spider, decided to step up and take over the role as Spider-Man. He has the same powers as normal Spider-Man, but can also turn invisible and has venom strike.

Peter Quill is a space traveler from Earth. He has a human mother, and alien father (his father is different between comics and film). He is the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and he must protect the universe, no matter what the cost.

Ororo Munroe is a mutant with the powers to control the weather. She is a longtime member of the X-Men, even serving as leader of the group on occasion. She is also considered to be one of the most powerful mutants ever and has a complicated romance with Black Panther.

Thor is the god of thunder. He comes from the magical realm of Asgard and is the son of Odin, ruler of Asgard. Earth serves as his second home, and he has a complicated relationship with his adopted brother Loki. His hammer Mjolnir can only be picked up by those who are worthy.

After gaining an unknown black suit, Spider-Man quickly learns that the black suit is an alien Symbiote. He gets rid of the alien, who later bonds with disgraced reporter Eddie Brock. Brock and the Symbiote would then terrorize Spider-Man as Venom. Recently, Venom has become more of an anti-hero.

Janet van Dyne

Janet Van Dyne served as an assistant, and love interest, to Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man. Janet will later adopt her own superhero persona called the Wasp. As the Wasp, she can shrink herself and fly with wings. In the comics, Janet is a founding member of the Avengers and even coins the team’s name.

Exclusive Wolverine Gameplay – Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

In this exclusive Game Informer video, Ben Hanson and Ben Reeves show off new gameplay featuring Wolverine in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order on the Nintendo Switch. Learn more details about his moves and our hands-on impressions at

The most famous X-Man out there, Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, but what he does best isn’t very helpful. Wolverine, also known as Logan, has super-fast healing powers and has three Adamantium-laced claws sticking out of both of his hands. He is one of the few heroes that are willing to kill as a first choice.
