If you are having trouble launching Halo: Reach On PC, then we have an easy fix.

Halo: Reach has launched on PC through Steam and the Windows Store. While the Steam launch seems to be mostly problem-free, some players on the Windows Store, or the Xbox App, are having trouble launching the game. After they installed the game through the App and hit the Play button, the Xbox App will minimize, but the game itself will not launch. It’s an annoying problem, but thankfully the fix is quite simple.

If you are having trouble launching Halo: Reach through the Windows Store, or the Xbox App, then follow the below steps to try and run it through the Xbox Console Companion:

  • Open the Start Menu
  • Scroll down to the Xbox Console Companion
  • Open the App
  • Look for “My Games”
  • Scroll down to Halo: The Master Chief Collection
  • Click Play

You can also type “Xbox Console Companion” in the search bar beside the Start button to find the app. This method will work for a lot of people, but some gamers have reported crashing after the logo screen. If this happens, make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your GPU.

For Nvidia, you want 441.41, and for AMD, you want 19.12.1. You can check your drivers using either companies software and make sure they are up to date.

If the game is still not running smoothly for you, go to the install folder, find the game’s executable, and right-click it and opt to run it as an Administrator. Hopefully, Microsoft will have a proper fix for this issue out soon, and you will be able to launch the game usually through the Windows Store or Xbox App.
