How to catch a Sturgeon in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Sturgeon general.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is packed with fish and bugs for you to catch. They all have their own set of rules for when they spawn. From the time of day to the month, and location, tracking them all can be a bit of a pain.

The Sturgeon is no different and can be sold for 10000 bells, which is a handsome price for one of your fishy friends.

To find the Sturgeon in the northern hemisphere, you will need to look for fish spawns near the mouth of rivers, from September to March in the southern hemisphere, and from March to September in the northern hemisphere. The time of day doesn’t matter, as the Sturgeon can spawn at any time.

So, to recap:

Northern Hemisphere

  • Fish at the mouths of rivers
  • Look for the largest shadows
  • Available all-day
  • Only available between September and March

Southern Hemisphere

  • Fish at the mouths of rivers
  • Look for the largest shadows
  • Available all-day
  • Only available between March and September

One item that will prove very useful in your quest to catch the Sturgeon or any other fish for that matter is Fish Bait. Be sure to bring some with you when you plan on fishing, as it will make more fish spawn.
