How to beat Latios in Pokémon Go – Weaknesses, counters, strategies

How do you beat it?

The legendary Pokémon in Pokémon are only available to players if they’re able to defeat them in five-star raids. These raids are typically open at gyms when a raid egg appears, but the Pokémon featured in the five-star raid is typically different every week. For those who encounter Latios, you’ll have a brief time to challenge it to a battle and take it down. We recommend taking a few friends with you to beat it and knowing Latios’ weaknesses and the best Pokémon to counter it ensures that you’ll be able to capture it at the end of the fight.

Latios weaknesses

Latios is a Dragon and Psychic-type Pokémon. It’s going to be weak against Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost, and Ice-type moves, but it’s resistant to Electric, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Psychic, and Water-type moves. You want to use any Bug, Dark, Fairy, and Ice-type moves against Latios.

Best Pokémon to counter Latios

When you’re looking for the best choices to take down Latios, we recommend using Reshiram, Garchomp, or Zekrom.

Reshiram is another legendary Pokémon, a Fire and Dragon-type. It arrived in summer 2020 and was available for a brief time, and for any trainer who has this in their roster, using it against Latios is a great time to use it. Reshiram, in PvE, has a maximum CP of 4,038, an attack of 229, a defense of 178, and a stamina of 173. The best moves it use in this battle include dragon breath for its fast move and then crunch and overheat for its charged moves.

We also recommend trainers use Garchomp, the Dragon and Ground-type Pokémon. Garchomp is likely more widely available for trainers who regularly participate in events, or have taken down a Gible in any of the one-star raids. It’s not as powerful as Reshiram, but for those who need a Dragon-type Pokémon that can withstand Latios, Garchomp is a superb option. It has a maximum CP of 4,565, an attack of 275, a defense of 211, and a stamina of 205. The best moveset it can use against Latios includes dragon tail for its fast move, and then outrage and earthquake for its charged moves.

The next Pokémon you can use is Zekrom, an Electric and Dragon-type Pokémon. It released during the same summer as Reshiram, and you can expect it to be a difficult Pokémon, but extremely useful, for players to have. It’ll be great to use against Latios but the downside is it’s also weak to some of the attacks Latios can do against it. Zekrom has a maximum CP of 4,565, an attack of 275, a defense of 211, and a stamina of 205. The best moveset it can use in the raid battle is dragon breath for its fast move, and then crunch and wild charge for its charged moves.
