Gigantaxmaxing is a new feature in Pokémon Sword and Shield. While every Galarian Pokémon can Dynamax, only some of them can Gigantamax. Pokémon that are capable of Gignatamaxing are quite rare, but there are some ways that you can improve your chances of getting them.

How To Get Gigantamax Pokémon In Sword and Shield

Taking part in Max Raid Battles is an excellent way to get Pokémon that can Gigantamax. Max Raid Battles involve a team of Trainers taking on a very powerful Pokemon. You can take part in them as soon as you arrive in the Wild Area, but they are very difficult at that stage in the game. Look for glowing red rock formations with a beam of light coming from them to join a Max Raid Battle. While it is possible to take part in these Battles with AI teammates if you are offline, it is undoubtedly worth being online to play them.

Nintendo will be running special events in the game that increase the chances of finding certain Pokémon during Max Raid Battles. From Nov. 15, all players will be more likely to encounter Gigantamax Butterfree. People with Sword will have an increased chance of an encounter with Gigantamax Dreadnaw, while people playing Shield will have a high probability of an encounter with Gigantamax Corviknight.

It has been heavily hinted by Game Freak that these increased chances will switch to different Pokémon over the next couple of months. There are also methods that allow you to get Gigantamax Meowth, Eevee, and Pikachu under special conditions. Meowth is available as an early purchase bonus, while Eevee and Pikachu are only available to people with a relevant Let’s Go save file on their Switch.
