If you start a new game of No Man’s Sky Beyond, you will arrive at a tutorial a short time into the game that tells you how to build a Base Computer. If you are picking up from an old save game file, you won’t get the tutorial, unfortunately, but this guide will tell you everything you need to know. While No Man’s Sky didn’t launch with base building, it has become a vital part of the game. You can set up a base to act as your center of operations, stocking it up with all the things you might need if things go wrong in space.

How To Build A Base Computer

Setting up a Base Computer is pretty simple; you want to be careful about where you do it. You will also need some materials to be able to build it.

  • When on the planet’s surface, press up on the d-pad.
  • Select portable technology.
  • Scroll down to Base Computer.
  • The base computer requires 40 Chromatic Metal to build.
  • Build the Base Computer.

The Base Computer is your claim to the land you wish to build on. If you want to build a habitable base, you will need the Base Computer because it will contact the Universal Cartographic Archive and mark you as the owner of the land. The Base Computer acts as the center of a circle, and you can build any modules you wish within that circle.

To get Chromatic Metal, you will need a Refiner. The Refiner can be found in the same “Portable Technology” menu that the Base Computer is located in. You will need 50 Ferrite Dust and 30 Oxygen to craft the Refiner. Once this is done, and the Refiner is built, you can use it to the turn Copper, Cadmium, Emeril and Indium into Chromatic Metal. One of the best sources for Copper will be asteroids, which are highly likely to be floating around the planet you are on.

And there you go, everything you need to know to build a Base Computer in No Man’s Sky Beyond.
