Remnant: From The Ashes – Which Class Should You Play?

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

With three classes to choose from, you might be wondering which archetype in Remnant: From The Ashes will work for you. In this guide we run through all three, and what they bring to the table.

Remnant: From The Ashes has three different classes that you will need to choose from at the start of the game. The Hunter, Ex-Cultist, and Scrapper all excel in various areas at the beginning of the campaign, but they will rapidly find new armor, weapons, and Mods that will completely change how they play. As such, keep in mind that you are making a decision that rapidly becomes less important as the game goes on.

Remnant: From The Ashes – Which Class Should You Play?

Scrapper

The Scrapper class is the best at close range combat and melee damage. Armed with a Shotgun, Repeater Pistol, and Scrap Hammer, the Scrapper will dish out huge damage to enemies that get too close. It also means that you need to get close to be effective, so if you are not the best at timing dodge rolls to take advantage of I-frames, this class will not be for you.

The Scrapper also starts with the Hot Shot mod that causes burning damage over time against enemies, which is very useful for boss fights.

Ex-Cultist

The Ex-Cultist is well equipped for mid-range combat. The Coachgun plays like a double-barrel shotgun but lacks the raw up close damage output of the Scrapper’s Shotgun. They are also armed with a Repeater Pistol and the Scrap Hatchet.

The Ex-Cultist’s mod is Mender’s Aura, which will cast a healing buff when you use it. It is an excellent mod and can get you out of some close calls, and provide constant heals as it will always charge as long as you are using the weapon it is attached to damage and kill enemies.

Hunter

The Hunter is designed to excel at long-range combat in the early game. The Hunting Rifle offers hard-hitting shots at excellent ranges, and they once again have the Repeater Pistol as back up, and the Scrap Sword for melee combat.

The Hunter’s starting mod is Hunter’s Mark. This mod will allow you to see enemies and teammates through walls and will provide an increase in critical chance against market targets.

Which class you play will depend on your personal preference, but as I said early, it rapidly becomes a non-issue as you collect new mods, weapons, and armor which can all be used by any of the three classes.
