CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 E3 2018 showing was amazing – the second trailer that was showcased at the Xbox Media Briefing gave us a first look at the lead protagonist, the Night City world, and many other things. In short, the 5-year wait for the new trailer was worth it (it is already the Most Viewed Trailer of E3 2018). In addition to this, CD Projekt Red showcased 50 minutes of gameplay demo behind the closed door at E3 2018 to select few media outlets, and one of the details that came out from this showing was that Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable in the first-person perspective. This is where things started to go a bit against CD Projekt Red – fans started arguing with the development team on Twitter and other social media platforms and their main concerns were that due to the first-person perspective they won’t be able to see their character that they had created during the gameplay. This backlash started to grow bigger and bigger with each passing hour, but thankfully, CD Projekt Red has addressed it and also explain the reason behind going for the first-person view for Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 First-Person View Concerns Addressed

Firstly, CD Projekt Red clarified (at E3 2018 – interview video provided below) that during the cutscenes in Cyberpunk, players will be able to see their character, and the third-person perspective will be used while driving the vehicle. When asked to comment on fans concern regarding the first-person view and why they went ahead with it instead of a third-person view? CD Projekt Red replied:

“First-person absolutely makes sense for us, because our company has always been about creating high-quality role-playing games, and only by using first-person for this game, we’ve been truly able to achieve a very immersive experience.”

In addition to this, CDPR stated that the first-person view in Cyberpunk 2077 will allow for a greater degree of immersion and players will be closer to all the action. If players want to have a look at their character then they can do that at any time via the inventory panel.

In my opinion, this clarification from CD Projekt Red should put all those backlashes to rest. We are debating on a game that is coming out from CD Projekt Red – their track record is pretty amazing, just take the case of The Witcher franchise – they know what their fans want. Also, they have set new industry standards for offering DLC content to the players for free of cost.

Lastly, if you still not convinced then you should read these impressions of press members that saw the Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay demo behind the closed door at E3 2018. Digital Foundry’s John Linneman states that graphics and visuals don’t look current-gen, and the scale of the game is equal to the combined scale of Deus Ex + Crysis + Witcher.
