At the Xbox E3 2019 media briefing, we’ve learned the first details about Project Scarlett, which is going to be the next generation Xbox console from Microsoft. It’s something that “eats monsters for breakfast,” claims the platform owner in terms of power, but it’s reportedly less powerful than Sony’s PlayStation 5.

As shared by Game Informer’s Andrew Reiner, Sony’s console is set to have more raw power in comparison of the just revealed Project Scarlett, which would make for a similar scenario in regards of the current generation machines as soon as they launched in 2013.

“Rumors before the show say the PS5 is more powerful than Project Scarlett, but we’ll see,” he said, so the information is far from being confirmed. Considering he’s from one of the most prominent magazines out there, though, it’s something you have to take into account until official confirmation.

As we’ve reported in our PS5 vs. Project Scarlett feature, “they will both be utilising the power of AMD’s next-generation Ryzen Processor technology to power their systems. This is significant as the tech is not even available (at the time of writing) to the crowd that this would normally excite the most, the PC gaming and building community.”

Also, “both consoles will support games in 8K, double the current 4K standard this is available on their PS4 Pro and Xbox One X consoles. They will also both be able to handle Ray-tracing, a technology that is very ambitious but will make a noticeable difference in the way games use reflections.”

So, at the very least, you could say you won’t notice a massive difference in terms of how the game will look on your 4K TV screen as soon as they release. Hopefully, Project Scarlett will have a great development environment from the start and won’t have to chase Sony helplessly as Xbox One has done this gen.
