We learned a few days ago that even Square Enix doesn’t know how many episodes are going to release for the remake, but the development team has at least knowledge about the time it’s going to take them to complete it.
“Due to the work already done on the first game we anticipate the development of the second game [part] to be more efficient,” said Yoshinori Kitase, a producer on the game. “We have our own internal schedule and plan, but for now we’d like to focus our information on the first game in the project.”
After all of the years, they’ve spent on the title; they won’t need to work on the characters or the combat system. Instead, the development of the episodes is going to focus on different environments, outside of Midgar, which will take the development team a great deal of time to work on as they shift to the next project.
We’ve learned that each of the episodes in the remake is going to be the size of a mainline Final Fantasy title, using Final Fantasy XII trilogy as a model. These models give players a decent idea of what to expect with each game, although the Midgar section was just a few hours long in the original Final Fantasy VII.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is releasing on March 3, 2020, for PS4.
