A woman allegedly hit a customer and insisted that staff at a Mexico City taco restaurant speak to her in English. Videos of the clash at one of the Orinoco taquerías spread online. Posts identified the foreign woman as American and gave her the nickname “Lady Gringa.”
According to Infobae, a TikTok poster who claims to have witnessed the episode stated that the trouble began outside the restaurant. He alleged the woman quarreled with a rideshare driver and then clashed with a man who sells atole, a hot corn-based drink. He claimed she asked the man for a cigarette and turned insulting once he replied that he carried only coins.
Inside the restaurant, the witness recalled, she demanded that employees book her a ride via a phone app and speak English with her. The situation grew more aggressive when staff declined, he stated. He added that she started a dispute with an employee and that he stepped in, which drew him into the altercation. The poster chose to film once the alleged abuse began.
Clips show repeated questions about pay
The clips show her in heated exchanges with employees and diners. In one clip, staff try to walk her out, and she tries to get back inside while pressing them to reveal their pay as a waitress urges her to leave. “How much do you earn in a year? What’s your big check?” she asks. She reportedly taunts them further with, “What, $500 a year?”
Another clip shows her turning to the person filming. When he tells her to keep her hands off him, she answers, “I’m touching you.” An employee can also be heard in the footage explaining the situation and saying she came in drunk.
The witness claimed she struck him in the stomach and flung his tacos at him. He also alleged that she used slurs directed at Mexicans. When he threatened to call police, he claimed, she replied that authorities would do nothing because she was American. According to his account, officers arrived and escorted him home while she kept yelling at him. He later thanked Orinoco for replacing his food. He closed his post with, “Not with the tacos, friends, not with the tacos and even less with Mexico.”
Other coverage placed the restaurant in Condesa. A man who appeared to be with her tried and failed to calm her and take her out, according to that reporting. It described her as visibly agitated and stated that the dispute began over a taco order. It reported that she tried to attack a worker and lay down on the restaurant floor. Employees tried to contain the situation, asked her to leave and considered calling police, it added.
Clashes between customers and restaurant workers have gone viral before, including one where a waitress says diners left without paying.
