Trump says he wants to rename the Atlantic Ocean ‘Trump Ocean’ and makes sounds like ‘pew, pew, pew’ as he describes Iran and drug boat strikes

President Trump reportedly told a South Carolina rally crowd he considered renaming the Atlantic Ocean after himself and that Google’s CEO turned him down, and he made sound effects while citing a 97 percent drop in drug shipments.

President Donald Trump told a rally crowd in Pendleton, South Carolina, on Wednesday that he considered renaming the Atlantic Ocean after himself, then decided against it. According to The New Republic, he also used sound effects while talking about drug boats and Iran. Trump recalled asking Google CEO Sundar Pichai, “I’m thinking of the Atlantic Ocean, can you handle it?” He concluded with, “I think let’s keep it the Atlantic Ocean.”

According to Fortune, Trump stated that Pichai turned him down. Google did not respond when the outlet asked it to confirm his account. He recounted that Pichai told him oceans span several countries and urged, “Please don’t ask us to do that.” The claim has not been independently verified. Trump then asked the audience whether the ocean should stay the Atlantic and floated calling the Pacific the “American Ocean.”

The idea had surfaced days earlier at a rally in Dalton, Georgia, the same report explained. There, Trump later called the request a joke and described sending Google a picture labeled “The Trump Ocean.” Google Maps shows “Gulf of America” to US users, while users in Mexico see “Gulf of Mexico,” and users elsewhere see both names. Google has stated that its policy is to reflect official government sources and show names by country.

Trump used sound effects on drug boats and Iran

Later in the speech, Trump described military action against suspected drug-smuggling boats and credited it for fewer drugs arriving by water. He stated that shipments “by ocean and sea” were down 97 percent, making a “pew, pew, pew” sound before he repeated the number. The article noted that Trump has cited the figure for months.

The Pentagon has released its own figures. According to a March report from Reuters, senior Pentagon official Joseph Humire reported that drug vessel movement fell 20 percent in the Caribbean and 25 percent in the Eastern Pacific. His statement listed 47 vessels destroyed as of that month. His figures track vessel movement rather than drug volume. Humire gave the statement in writing to lawmakers, the report noted.

Trump turned to the war with Iran next. Miming a downward flow, he stated, “Oh, and when Iran ends. POW.” Then he clarified that he meant “The oil.” The article tied the conflict to a sustained rise in energy prices and noted that indirect negotiations remain ongoing, while Trump has stated that an end is near.

Rally appearances have drawn attention in other races as well, as when a conservative creator was asked to leave a Paxton rally in San Antonio. Trump’s policies have drawn comment from his own party this week too, as when Thom Tillis questioned Trump’s Russia policy over Ukraine and Patriot missile transfers.
