DICE Reportedly Working on a Battlefield V Battle Royale Mode

Battlefield V could receive its own battle royale mode after release, a new report alleges.

DICE is working on a battle royale mode for its rumored upcoming title Battlefield V, a new report from GamesBeat claims.

The mode, which is currently being prototyped by the EA studio, would feature “similar gameplay to megahits like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds,” GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb reported earlier today. The information comes from an anonymous source who allegedly has knowledge of the game’s development at DICE.

Grubb’s report warns that the possible battle royale mode wouldn’t be available with Battlefield V at release. The multiplayer feature is reportedly still being prototyped and DICE has not officially decided on using it quite yet. The report also speculates that the mode could “end up as a new part of Battlefield V as a free update,” but, again, it could just as easily be canceled or saved for a later paid DLC option.

Battlefield V remains one of EA’s biggest open secrets. Earlier this year, Grubb published a report on Battlefield V, claiming that the game will return to the series’ roots in World War II. Initial speculation hints the game will feature cosmetic loot boxes, take place around the world, and feature episodic ministories.

The game is expected to launch later this year, but EA has not officially confirmed its existence yet. Battlefield fans have since speculated on the rumor’s credibility as EA prepares to officially unveil this year’s Battlefield game right before E3 2018.
