Insomniac Games - Spider-Man Game For PS4

Insomniac Games Reveals How Sony And Marvel Offered Them Spider-Man PS4

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Spider-Man PS4 offer came towards Insomniac Games in a unique way. Marvel and Sony called Insomniac Games and asked them which Marvel characters they would like to work on and they choose Spider-Man.

Video games development is full with interesting stories about how a project actually rises and shines, and of course, fails in the worst cases. This time, it was Insomniac Games’ James Stevenson who revealed an amazing behind the scene story about the upcoming Spider-Man.

According to the community director, back in the days publisher Sony contacted Insomniac Games and offered the Sunset Overdrive and Ratchet & Clank dev team the opportunity to work with Marvel with any of the characters in their portfolio.

Marvel Asked Insomniac To Work On Any Character

The choice ended up being Spider-Man. The most amazing thing in Stevenson’s report is that, while we think the game was kind of linked to the return of the character on the big screen, it was at least for the biggest part something very distant from being a commercial operation at its core.

“Sony came to us and asked if we wanted to work with Marvel,” the community director said on ResetEra. “Sony and Marvel let us decide what character/universe we wanted to make a game based on. We chose Spider-Man.”

It’s very refreshing to learn stuff like this still happens in video games. Projects led by passion are always the best, and hopefully 2018 PS4 exclusive turns something like in that range. Spidey’s back this year and we’re waiting to learn a precise release date.
