Minecraft players will soon be able to earn Xbox Live Achievements by playing the game on their Nintendo Switch, a new report from Polygon reveals.

The news originally came after Twitch streamer and YouTuber Patrick Maka spotted Minecraft for Nintendo Switch as having its own distinct achievements on Xbox Live. Throughout the week, fans speculated whether this would be the case, until one Minecraft representative confirmed the news to Polygon.

“We can confirm that Minecraft players on Nintendo Switch will soon be able to earn achievements tied to Xbox Live once the Bedrock update is released,” one Minecraft spokesperson confirmed to Polygon. No release date has currently been given for the update.

This isn’t the first time Xbox Live Achievements were tied to Minecraft releases outside of Xbox and Windows platforms, of course. Minecraft for iOS and Minecraft for Android both support Xbox Live Achievements as well, which are currently live. With Minecraft’s Nintendo Switch achievements on the way, it also raises larger questions as to whether other games will implement Xbox Live Achievements for the Nintendo Switch.

Minecraft still remains one of the most popular video games across platforms, especially after Mojang launched the game’s cross-platform “Better Together” update late last year. The game has since sold over 144 million copies worldwide across platforms since it first launched, with over 20 million units sold from February 2017 to mid-January 2018.
