Shenmue series is not going to end with Shenmue III. Yu Suzuki has confirmed that Shenmue III ending is going to be open and he already has a Shenmue IV planned.
Shenmue III was once again spotted at Magic Monaco 2018, even though a trailer was only available off-screen and the official material coming from the event included just three screenshots.
In that occasion, though, series creator Yu Suzuki released few interviews which look rather interesting and give us a further idea of where the franchise is going once this iteration finally comes to life on PlayStation 4 and PC.
From the looks of it, Shenmue III is going to feature an open ending so that the team and Suzuki can express their full narrative plan in a fourth, and yet unannounced, chapter.
“Yes, the end will be open for a sequel. It will not be possible to finish with this third episode,” said Suzuki when interviewed by a French outlet. Also, he said the trailer shown at Magic Monaco was an extended version of the disappointed clip we saw last year at Gamescom, and that it is “different from where we are today.”
On top of that, he refused to discuss Shenmue and Shenmue II remasters, which have been rumored for quite a long time now and appear to be possibly revealed at E3 2018 after several delays in the official announcement. “It’s something I can not talk about for the moment,” he said.
In the meantime, Shenmue III releases this year.
