Pokémon Go players who frequently participate in the Great and Ultra League, you’ve probably encountered opponents who have a Galarian Stunfisk on their team. While it may seem that this Pokémon is a bit of a joke, it’s actually one of the better Pokémon you can use in both leagues. For the Great League, you have to make sure it doesn’t exceed 1,500 CP, and for the Ultra League, you want to give it all of the XL candy it can use to power it up. In both leagues, it’s pretty powerful, not only because of its stats, but because of the resistances it has, and the overall moveset. If you want to use it in both leagues, you need to make sure it has access to its best attacks.
Galarian Stunfisk is a Ground and Steel-type Pokémon. It will be weak to Fighting, Fire, Ground, and Water-type moves, but it’s resistant against Bug, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Flying, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, and Steel-type attacks. If you’re fighting this Pokémon, you only have a few options available to you, which is why you’ll see plenty of players using Water-type Pokémon in both the Great and Ultra Leagues.

Fast moves
- Metal Claw (Steel-type) – 5 damage and 3 energy (2.5 damage per attack)
- Mud Shot (Ground-type) – 3 damage and 4.5 energy (1.5 damage per attack)
Charged moves
- Earthquake (Ground-type) – 120 damage and 65 energy
- Flash Cannon (Steel-type) – 110 damage and 70 energy
- Muddy Water (Water-type) – 35 damage and 35 energy (30% chance to lower an opponent’s attack by one rank)
- Rock Slide (Rock-type) – 75 damage and 45 energy
For Galarian Stunfisk’s fast move, we highly recommend you go with mud shot over metal claw. While metal claw does a bit more damage, it doesn’t produce as much energy as mud shot. Does that’s the real magic for fast attacks, giving the Pokémon enough energy to use their charge moves, the most powerful attacks they can use during a battle.
When considering Galarian Stunfisk’s charged moves, you want to go with rock slide for the first option. It doesn’t require too much energy, similar to muddy water, but it does over twice the damage, making it a far more appealing attack. You can easily break an opponent’s shields using this attack. A player only has access to two shields throughout the match, and if they waste one on a rock slide, it allows you to use a more powerful attack. For the second move, we recommend you use earthquake over flash cannon. These two attacks only have five energy difference. Still, earthquake does 10 more damage and requires five less energy than muddy water does. You’re going to benefit far more having earthquake in your arsenal against most opponents.
Galarian Stunfisk is a difficult Pokémon to defeat. You can use it with almost any team in the Battle League, so long as you consider ways to counter any Water and Ground-type Pokémon.
