How Dynamax Soup works in Pokémon Sword and Shield Isle of Armor expansion

Unlock Gigantaxmax Pokémon forms.

The first expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield, Isle of Armor, brings plenty of first-generation Pokémon and gives them a unique look with new Galarian Forms. The release date trailer showed plenty of these new forms, such as the modified legendary birds Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno. The trailer also showed off numerous trainers gathered around a large table, about to enjoy a cooked meal. But the cooked meal will go beyond the traditional curry players had made in their camps. The upcoming meals will be available so trainers can feed it to their Pokémon, who have the potential to Dynamax and allow it so they can become Gigantamax.

The new soup fits alongside the mechanic introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield, where Pokémon have a Dynamax form, which is the bigger-than-life transformations. A Pokémon who Dynamaxes has additional health, more powerful moves, and upgraded stats. It’s a great way to turn the tables against a trainer during a battle and comes with plenty of strategies for you to pick the best time to have your Pokémon transform. While in a Dynamax form, the Pokémon’s body becomes larger but does not change too significantly.

Gigantamax Pokémon are a unique variety of Dynamax where their appearance changes with their size. Only certain Pokémon that Dynamax could also have a Gigantamax form, but the new Gigantamax soup will enable it so trainers can unlock Pokémon’s Gigantamax potential if they can use Dynamax.

The Gigantamax soup will unlock new appearances for Pokémon when they transform, giving them access to new G-Max moves. G-Max moves are dramatically more powerful than a traditional Max Move, which Dynamax Pokémon can use. How trainers go about acquiring this soup remains a mystery until we learn more about it from the Isle of Armor DLC pack.

We’ll have more information about how trainers can acquire this soup once the DLC releases, and we’ll make sure to update this guide come June 17.
